NIO has completed its 10,000th battery swap in Europe, after the service in China reached a cumulative total of 10 million six months ago.

NIO's Norwegian app announced the progress today, saying that the 10,000th battery swap was completed in Lier, Norway, at 7:55 pm local time on February 21. The user, called Bjarte, will receive a specially engraved NIO Life bottle and a commemorative certificate.

To celebrate this milestone, NIO in Europe is offering an NIO Life bottle to all users who have recently made a battery swap and donated to plant a tree on their behalf.

As of February 15, NIO has 11 battery swap stations in Europe and another six of the facility will open soon, according to the NIO App. The company's charging map has access to 388,000 third-party charging piles in Europe.

"One of the biggest worries of EV ownership is range anxiety. NIO Power Swap Stations are a solution to help address this concern and to provide you with a recharging experience beyond refueling," says an article posted on NIO's Norwegian app.

NIO users can swap out a depleted battery for a fully charged one in the time it takes to listen to a song. During the battery swap process, both the car and the battery are checked to make sure they are functioning properly, the article reads.

Battery swap stations are NIO's signature energy replenishment facility, and it is continuing to deploy them in Europe, after the business model proved popular in the Chinese market.

On July 5, 2022, NIO announced that it had reached 10 million cumulative battery swap services. The company had 999 battery swap stations in China at that time.

NIO initially offered only a vehicle leasing option in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden and announced on November 21 last year that it began offering a purchase option and that deliveries of cars purchased will begin in 2023.
