GWM Malaysia has announced that its new Tank 300 SUV, launched in mid-July, has delivered its first 100 vehicles within a month. The Tank 300 is a luxury off-road SUV imported from China. It’s currently available in a single version in Malaysia, priced at RM250,000 (on-the-road, excluding insurance). Despite being on sale for less than a month, GWM Malaysia has already received over 300 orders.
The 100th customer, car enthusiast Professor Steven Leow, said he was drawn to the Tank 300’s features and technology. After trying it out in China, he fell in love with the SUV. He remarked, “I didn’t expect an off-road vehicle to be as comfortable as a car, which exceeded my expectations. Plus, the advanced driving aids, wireless charging, and transparent underbody are perfect for modern needs.”
The Tank 300 uses a strong non-body-on-frame chassis with a rigidity of 1500 MPa. Its dimensions are 4772mm long, 1970mm wide, and 2013mm high, with a wheelbase of 2750mm. It can wade through 700mm of water, has a ground clearance of 224mm, a maximum climbing angle of over 70%, and approach and departure angles of 33° and 34°, respectively, making it suitable for both city and off-road driving.
In China, the Tank 300 comes in two versions: one with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and another with the same engine plus a 48V mild-hybrid system. The version sold locally has the former, with 227 horsepower and 387 Nm of torque. It features an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive (4WD).
The Tank 300 offers nine driving modes, including Standard (2H), Snow (4H), Rough Road (4L), Rock (4L), Mountain (4L), Mud (4L), and Expert mode. It also includes "Tank Turn Assist" and "Crawl Control" for better off-road handling and a transparent underbody view to address blind spots.
Inside, the SUV features 18-inch wheels, a 12.3-inch dual-screen setup (for the instrument panel and infotainment system), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, 12V power outlets in both front and rear cargo areas, and USB charging ports in the front and rear.
Other amenities include Nappa leather seats, heated and cooled front seats, a massage and power-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charging, a high-end Infinity audio system with nine speakers, 64-color ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, and full radar sensors.
For safety, the Tank 300 comes with standard safety features and a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving assistance system, including adaptive cruise control (ACC), intelligent cruise assistance (ICA), lane centering assistance (LCK), traffic jam assistance (TJA), and lane departure warning (LKA).
