On August 30, the new MG5 was officially unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show. This compact sedan has received updates in design, interior, and features. It offers both 1.5L and 1.5T engine options and comes in both manual and automatic transmissions.
The new MG5 features MG's “Hector” design language with a large front grille and triangular headlights, along with black “fang” details on the front corners, giving it a sporty look.
From the side, the MG5 retains MG's classic Fastback design, which provides a strong visual impact and brand identity. The car measures 4715mm in length, 1842mm in width, 1473mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2680mm.
Inside, the MG5’s interior is designed to be youthful and sporty. It has black leather seats with red stitching and a three-spoke sports steering wheel with chrome trim. The car features a 12.3-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, both equipped with the Zebra Venus smart car system, which supports voice control and home connectivity. Physical buttons below the touchscreen are kept for easy access to common functions.
In terms of power, the base model of the MG5 comes with a 1.5L engine, while the higher-end Scorpion model features a 1.5T engine. The 1.5L engine produces 129 horsepower, and the 1.5T engine produces 181 horsepower. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available, with the manual version featuring a mechanical handbrake and the automatic version featuring an electronic handbrake. The higher-end model also includes the XDS corner dynamic control system, EPS-PRO adjustable steering system, and a variable-section sport rear suspension for enhanced handling.
