On August 30, 2024, the Chengdu International Auto Show officially opened. The Beijing Hyundai fifth-generation Santa Fe was also officially launched. The booth featured a wide range of vehicles to meet different consumer needs, offering a feast of technology and quality. Notably, Beijing Automotive unveiled its “Westward Expansion” strategy, which includes customized models and services for the western market, demonstrating BAIC Group's commitment to expanding in that region.Accelerating Expansion into the Western Market

With over sixty years of experience in off-road vehicles, Beijing Automotive has been a key player in the western market. At the auto show, the company introduced the “Westward Expansion” strategy, focusing on products, policies, experiences, services, and ecosystems tailored to the western market. This strategy aims to strengthen Beijing Automotive’s foundation in the west and boost sales.

The booth featured the new BJ40 Magic Core Electric Drive version, BJ60 Thunder, and BJ30 models, marking the formation of the “Magic Core” lineup. The BJ60 Thunder made its debut and began its first deliveries. It is equipped with Beijing Automotive’s self-developed “Tai Chi” flexible off-road chassis, offers a range of 1200 kilometers, and provides 1836 liters of flat cargo space with the rear seats folded. It has a fuel consumption of just 1.3 liters per 100 kilometers. These features highlight BAIC’s deep technical expertise in off-road and hybrid vehicles, laying a solid foundation for its expansion in the western market.

Electric Vehicles Leading the Trend

STELATO and Huawei’s latest joint venture, the STELATO S9, made a stunning appearance at the auto show. The STELATO S9, described as a “Flagship Smart Sedan,” features first-ever rear zero-gravity seats, a car-grade projection screen, and HUAWEI ADS 3.0 advanced driving system. The car redefines luxury sedans with its design, space, driving experience, intelligence, and safety. The STELATO S9 drew significant attention, with attendees lining up to experience its luxurious technology.

Additionally, BAIC Arcfox showcased its latest electric vehicles. The Alpha S5 and Alpha T5 made their debut, bringing 800V high-voltage fast-charging technology to the 160,000 RMB price range. The newly launched Kaola S, a five-seat electric SUV designed for young urbanites, was also in the spotlight. This model caters to the needs of young consumers, offering convenient and comfortable urban mobility.

Joint Venture Brands in Full Force

In the joint venture segment, Beijing Hyundai officially launched the fifth-generation Santa Fe. This mid-large SUV combines rugged design with a comfortable ride, strengthening Beijing Hyundai’s position in the market. In response to the automotive industry’s shift towards electrification and smart technology, Beijing Hyundai has increased investment in technology, funding, and talent, accelerating its brand transformation and enhancing decision-making efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz also made a strong showing with the new V-Class L MPV, showcasing its dominance in the luxury business vehicle market. The V-Class L offers spacious interiors, luxurious features, and outstanding comfort. Additionally, the long-wheelbase GLC plug-in hybrid SUV made its global debut at the show.
