Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) and Changan Mazda Automobile have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop new energy vehicles, the companies announced recently.

CATL, Changan Mazda Sign MoU to Advance Electric Vehicle DevelopmentThe agreement, signed in Shanghai, aims to leverage CATL's Integrated Intelligent Chassis (CIIC), also known as the skateboard chassis, alongside Changan Mazda's vehicle manufacturing expertise. The collaboration is intended to accelerate Changan Mazda’s electrification strategy and serve as a reference model for technological integration and efficient vehicle development.

The CIIC platform features a modular architecture with a decoupled upper and lower body, standardized interfaces, and separation between hardware and software systems. According to the companies, these features allow for faster adaptation to different vehicle models and shorten development cycles, enabling greater responsiveness to shifting market needs.

Both parties plan to deepen cooperation in the skateboard chassis segment by combining their respective technological strengths. They also intend to continue exploring advanced NEV technologies with the goal of delivering safe, high-quality electric vehicles and contributing to the broader transition toward electrification.

CATL is one of the world’s leading battery manufacturers, while Changan Mazda is a joint venture between China’s Changan Automobile and Japan’s Mazda Motor Corporation.
