PURWAKARTA, Indonesia —On June 5, Skyworth Auto announced the rollout of its first locally assembled electric vehicle in Indonesia, marking a key milestone in its partnership with Indonesian electronics manufacturer Polytron.
The POLYTRON G3 model was assembled at Skyworth’s knock-down (KD) plant in Purwakarta, West Java, and is expected to enter the local market shortly. The vehicle is based on Skyworth’s SKYWORTH K platform and was developed in collaboration with Polytron to address local transportation needs.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding in Jakarta in August 2023 to begin joint efforts on EV manufacturing in Indonesia. Polytron introduced the G3 series at a product launch event in May, highlighting the model as the result of a nearly yearlong development process.
The G3 and G3+ models combine Skyworth’s EV technology with Polytron’s market knowledge and manufacturing capabilities. The companies said the vehicles were tailored to meet the driving preferences and conditions in Indonesia.
Skyworth plans to increase investment in the country and expand cooperation with Polytron in product development, technical support and after-sales services, the company said.
The rollout is part of Skyworth’s broader strategy to expand its electric vehicle footprint in Southeast Asia.
